Swimming Instructions
After checking into Dead Sea Spa Hotel, we changed into our bathing suits and started our descent to The Dead Sea.
The sign on the way down outlined swimming expectations and suggestions.

Disappearing
The Dead Sea is a lake.
The Jordanian government is draining it for profit.
As we walked, signs indicated where the water levels once were in the years 2000, 2005, and 2010.

First Time
My first steps into The Dead Sea.
The water feels oily and slippery.
It slips off your skin, and slides around you with a feeling of density to it.

Unexpected Side Effect
The sign on the way down that outlined swimming expectations and suggestions said to protect your eyes and mouth.
It should have also indicated to protect you anus.
After floating for about 5 minutes, I experienced an unexpected anus side effect from the lake’s 33.7% salinity.
My bum stung so much, I was almost in tears because of this pain, as well as fearful I wouldn’t be able to experience this world-famous location.
I was off like a marathon runner for the showers to rinse myself off as inconspicuously as possible.

Dead Sea Mud
There are many benefits of this mineral rich mud.
It nourishes the skin. It treats skin conditions like eczema. It helps with relief of arthritis and muscle pain. It also provides exfoliation and moisturization.

Muddy Fun
I rationalized that covering myself with Dead Sea mud would some way help me stay longer in the water.
But, as we know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing again, but expecting a different result.
I had this idea that mud put on a wasp sting removes the pain.
So, I decided to add the Dead Sea mud to my bum thinking it would prevent the sting.
This plan started out okay as we waited for the mud to dry before entering the water, while also having some photo fun.
Then in we went, enjoying how the mud dissolves as we floated.
But, slowly, then quickly the salt in the mud combined with the salt in the water made my bum sting a thousand times worse.
I was once again almost in tears as I rinsed off in the shower.
Once the pain subsided, I relaxed on the beach with a resolve to try one more time.
But not this day.
