According to our 4×4 tour guide, he would be taking us to some of the same locations used in the movies The Martian and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker .
As a lifelong Star Wars fan I was thrilled knowing I would be where Chewbacca once visited!
Michael and our tour guide (we forget his name!) before we started our 4×4 adventure.
He was a real character! He had no problem making the majority of the conversation about his desire to add three more wives to the one he has already.
Wadi Rum – Our Adventure Begins
Our ride through Wadi Rum wasn’t on a space ship, but it sure felt like one because our guide seemed to have a bit of Han Solo in him.
We sat in the back cab of his 4X4 truck with a makeshift awning to keep the blazing sun off us.
As we started, my camera setting was accidentally on black & white. The photos are cool – but missing the otherworldly colours that make Wadi Rum so unique.
But, before I continue on our 4×4 adventure, I’ve listed the planet names and their movies filmed on location in Wadi Rum.

The movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, used Wadi Rum for the setting of the desert moon Jedha, a desert moon that orbits the planet of NaJedha.
Wadi Rum – Planet Mars – The Martian
Wadi Rum – Planet Arrakis – Dune: Part One
Michael and I didn’t consume enough Spice on Arrakis as the Fremen, resulting in Blue Eyes.
We didn’t eat potatoes while on Mars.
We didn’t locate Kyber Crystals for our Lightsabers while seeking Spiritual Guidance on our Pilgrimage to the Jedi Order Holy Site on Jedha.
We didn’t battle Kylo Wren while on Pasaana.
Wadi Rum – Planet Earth – Stephanie & Michael
We did feel the Wild Storm Winds of Wadi Rum, sprinkled with rain and burning sand, as it stung our skin.
I did feel the desert sand roast my feet like potatoes in an oven. I was barefoot, easier to walk that way then wearing my sandals that scooped the hot sands like spoons.
While I’ve given you a sneak peak of our adventure ahead, we loved EVERYTHING about Wadi Rum.
