Moses & Mount Nebo’s Location
The significance of Mount Nebo and Moses depends on your religious belief.
Mount Nebo is located within Christianity’s Holy Land & Judaism’s Promised Land & Islam’s Holy Land.
- Moses is a prophet for the Christian, Jewish and Islam religions
- The Holy Land in terms of Christianity is: Jerusalem, Jordan River, Galilee (Israel & southern Lebanon), Samaria (West Bank in Palestine, occupied by Israel), Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Red Sea and Sinai Desert)
- The Promised Land in terms of Judaism is: the land given by God to Abraham and his descendants – the Homeland for the Jewish People – The Land of Milk and Honey – The Land of Canaan (Present day Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, Jordan, and the southern portions of Syria and Lebanon)
- The Holy Land in terms of Islam is: where Moses proclaimed to the Children of Israel that this is the Land Allah has Assigned to You – This is the Land of Canaan (Present day Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, Jordan, and the southern portions of Syria and Lebanon)
- The Bible’s Old Testament says that Mount Nebo was where Moses viewed the Land of Canaan, which he would never enter, and lived out his final days there
- Mount Nebo is where Moses was buried – however, the exact location is not known

Arriving
We didn’t travel to Mount Nebo on a religious pilgrimage.
We were here as one of the sites scheduled on our week long tour of Jordan.
I admit I was a bit confused at first and wasn’t sure why we were here and what the experience would be.
A guide was not included with this tour because it was a small, and easy to explore on our own.
The majority of the tourists were religious groups on pilgrimage to the Holy/Promised Land.
These are the sights while walking up the path towards the plateau of Mount Nebo with the museum, view of the Holy/Promised Land and Moses Memorial Church.

Franciscan Custody of Terrasanta Memorial of Moses
The mission of the Custody of the Holy Land is to guard “the grace of the Holy Places” of the Holy Land and the rest of the Middle East, “sanctified by the presence of Jesus“, as well as pilgrims visiting them, on behalf of the Catholic Church.

Unus Deus Pater Omnium Super Omnes
This sculpture, the Monolith of the 2000 Jubilee created by Vincenzo Bianchi, was erected by the Catholic Church in celebration of the Pope’s visit to Mount Nebo, Jordan.
The Latin inscriptions at the base reads, “Unus Deus Pater Omnium Super Omnes,” which is taken from Ephesians 4:6 in the Bible. It means “One God and Father of all, who is above all.“

The Abu Badd
The Abu Badd is a rolling stone used as a fortified door of the Byzantine Monastery in the old village of Faisaliyah once known as Kufeir Abu Badd.

Antiquities
Walking towards the museum is this mosaic floor and carved stone.
The mosaic floor is partitioned off, you can’t walk on it.
Both the mosaic floor and carved stone do not have a sign, describing its history.
