After seeing the herd of wild elephants, the caretaker from Lake Edge Holiday Inn took us to meet a friend, a farmer whose job it is to prevent wild elephants from walking on the fields and eating its crops.
He blows a horn, loudly, scaring them away.
He demonstrated – but did not blow into it.
We sat for a bit, under the full moon, not understanding the Sri Lankan language being spoken between friends.
The farmer offered half a fruit to us. I tried it, didn’t like it but smiled and said thank you.
Then our visit was over
We returned to the inn, for our final night in the wild paradise of Sri Lanka.
