Spring of 2020 – Conceptional Ideas Come to Life on SketchUp

During the spring of 2020 Michael purchased the 3D Modelling Program SketchUp and began designing our 5 Partial Sphere 3 Frequency Icosahedron Dome.
Because of post-COVID inflation rates we are not building the annex and main dome (dome to the left). We have chosen to build the garage and workshop section of the original design, with a studio apartment above to call home.

Two years after he started putting his ideas into 3D form, construction begins with Michael as the one man general contractor.
Michael has designed, researched, organized, is building, crafting, assembling, painting, etc.. almost every aspect of our dome.
We hope you enjoy this blog series.

Painting
Our upstairs main living space and bedroom have two colours: Sage Green and Soft Yellow.
The basic painting scheme is: Sage Green for trapezoids, curved walls and everything else. Soft Yellow for triangles.
The kitchen has two colours: a bright, Mediterranean Blue (inspired from our travels throughout Greece) for the standing wall and Dark Grey with Blue Undertone for the cabinets and island.
These colours represent nature: Yellow – sun, Green – trees, Blue – water, including the Grey barn-board flooring – tree bark.
The bathroom, recently repainted (yesterday) is black. This is our “bat cave” bathroom – its centre piece will be our white freestanding bathtub.
