Spring of 2020 – Conceptional Ideas Come to Life on SketchUp

During the spring of 2020 Michael purchased the 3D Modelling Program SketchUp and began designing our 5 Partial Sphere 3 Frequency Icosahedron Dome.
Because of post-COVID inflation rates we are not building the annex and main dome (dome to the left). We have chosen to build the garage and workshop section of the original design, with a studio apartment above to call home.

Two years after he started putting his ideas into 3D form, construction begins with Michael as the one man general contractor.
Michael has designed, researched, organized, been part of or is building every aspect of our dome.
We hope you enjoy this blog series.

Stephanie & Michael
Redesigned North Entrance
Michael scrambled at the last minute to redesign the front entrance to turn it into a more protected, portico type entrance.
An added bonus is it gives us more space on the second level, over the redesigned entrance.

Our Emblem
In tribute to our time in Qatar and our love, I had a silver pendant made while overseas.
Michael enhanced the original design with colour as the template for matching tattoos.
The pendant and our tattoos are Arabic abjads (alphabet letters) of calligraphy design – made of our first name initials in a heart. M (Michael) is red. S (Stephanie) is purple. The black lines are design to connect the letters.
Michael had a mold made of our emblem to eventually press into fresh concrete poured within the pentagon at the north door entrance of our dome. ❤️💜

My View From The Slab
Michael is fearless as he crawls all over the dome, pulling up sheets of plywood, always cutting at precise angels, then nailing it in.

Panoramic Views From The Second Level
I braved going up the scaffolding (I’m terrified of heights) to take photos as well as gain perspective of what the second level – our living area – will be like – especially the windows!
