Cordonata Capitolina
Capitoline Hill is one of the Seven Hills of Rome. It was the centre for political and religious life, housing temples for Jupiter, Juno and Minerva.
This staircase, Cordonata Capitolina, was designed by Michelangelo. It leads from the base of the hill up to the Piazza del Campidoglio.
At the top of the Cordonata Capitolina, stand Castor and Pollux.

Castor and Pollux
Castor and Pollux, the Dioscuri, are twin brothers in Greek and Roman mythology, representing the inseparable bond of brotherhood and the blending of mortal and divine nature.
They were known for their heroic adventures and were transformed by Zeus into the constellation twins of Gemini.
Their mother is Leda, queen consort of Sparta.
The statue on the left is Castor, mortal son of Tyndareus, king of Sparta.
The statue on the right is Pollux, demigod son of Zeus.
