The Relationship With Myself Taught Me The Most About Myself

Which relationship has taught you the most about yourself?

I would say the relationship I have with myself has taught me the most about myself, because I choose to be mindfully aware of my thoughts, behaviours, and actions as indicators of when I am feeling happy, joyous, and free or restless, irritable, and discontented.

I prefer a life of feeling happy, joyous, and free rather than restless, irritable, and discontented.

When I feel out of sorts, I investigate with willingness and curiosity to understand why.

It’s never someone else’s fault.

It is because I find some person, place, thing or situation unacceptable.

I then get honest with myself.

I am mindfully aware of:

  • Asking myself, what am I afraid of?
  • Acceptance
  • The Four Agreements
  • Saying the Serenity Prayer

Going deeper to gain a better understanding of myself, peeling back the layers of who I really am, takes time.

As I understand more about myself, more is revealed.

  1. If only… A worthless phrase forty or fifty years on, but I would have been better off caring less about what others thought and assuming the best, not the worst, about situations.
