What Books Do I Want To Read?

Since I’ve started following Walk For Peace , a significant spiritual shift has happened within me.

Peace has settled in my heart.

Bhikkhu Pannakara, leader of Walk For Peace, suggests everyone, every morning and any time throughout the day when life gets lifey, say out loud, write it down, return to it:

Today is going to be my peaceful day.

I was introduced to Recovery Dharma by a woman on the Walk For Peace Community Page on Facebook, who is also following the Venerable Monks on their walk.

I have immediately fallen in love with this as all recovery is supported: Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Sex Addictions, Gambling, Trauma Recovery, etc….

There are a variety of Zoom meetings to choose from, and I attended my first one last night.

This meeting started with preamble, as any 12-Step meeting does, next was a 15 minute guided mediation, then we read from the Recovery Dharma book along with discussion.

I felt such a sense of peace. There was community like the 12-Step Fellowship – called Sangha in Recovery Dharma.

I will learn of Buddhism principles and teachings through Recovery Dharma that will strengthen my spiritual program in Alcoholics Anonymous.

A win-win!

So, the books I am reading now are:

Recovery Dharma and Plain Language Big Book.

To steep me in both programs.

First, I Need The Just-Right Reading Space To Settle Into

If I had the right reading space, without any distractions and everything is in its place and a place for everything, there are many books I would want to read.

Right now, we are living in our RV as my husband builds our dome and the space is cramped with two large dogs and ourselves.

As well, all our books are packed away.

That said, over the past few years I have found it very challenging to settle and focus on reading a book.

I can, however, imagine myself settled into the reading nook in our dome enjoying books on history, philosophy, astronomy, and the metaphysical world.

  1. Sounds nice. There must be a few challenges I would think RV living with two dogs?

    1. Oh yes! Some days it is fun, other days like rain and mud, not so much as there isn’t a buffer room to clean them when they bound back into the RV from the rain with their paws covered in mud! 🙈🥳😂🐾
