Mastering the Art of Meeting People Where They Are

This morning I read Matt Khan’s powerful quote on meeting people where they are.

I find this skill particularly challenging to implement.

Why?

I’ve always struggled with people.

Understanding who they are.

Trusting their motives.

Trusting my ability to properly interpret the energy they give off.

Add to that my irrational belief that I am responsible for their bad or distant moods.

Imagine that!

This irrational belief is so outrageously self-centered in a non-selfish way.

Meaning, when I feel vulnerable or fear, this maladaptive childhood view is my interpretive filter.

Mindfulness, along with observing others is the powerful skill I use to detach from feeling responsible for other’s moods.

I need to feel at ease with the people around me first. Then, I have the ease of mind to meet people where they are at.
