It Is Happening
As our flight approached its destination of Cairo, Egypt I felt a calm come over me.
This was it.
I was arriving in the realm of pharaohs and pyramids, gods, goddesses and myths.
My childhood dream of walking through this ancient civilization was unfolding before me.
Cairo Airport
It was intense.
Passport booths staffed by intimidating men who wore berets while chain smoking did not offer that Air Canada friendly customer service smile.
One staffer wanted to keep Michael’s passport. I freaked and argued with him through his cigarette smoke and finally he gave it back to me. It was a scary moment.
I felt like I was in a Quentin Tarantino movie. I wanted to take a picture of the a@#hole, but was afraid I’d be arrested.
As we slowly made our way past customs, we were swarmed with quick talking scammers who recognised an eager, naive, excited tourist like myself. These scammers didn’t get very far with us, thanks to Michael.
I had fun posing with Egyptian artefacts decorating the airport. I’m quite sure they were duplicates of the real thing.
Sights Along Our Taxi Drive From Cairo to Giza
Our taxi drive from the Cairo International Airport to our hotel in Giza took about an hour and a half. Here are some sights along the way.
The Moment I Saw A Pyramid
As we drove through Giza, I cried with heavy emotion the moment I saw the pyramids.
