There is so much I could say to my younger self—advice about mental health diagnoses and alcoholism to career choices.
I still struggle with thoughts that make my day-to-day life, situations, and interactions with people feel unsafe.
It’s so difficult to let my guard down.
Then I remember what helps me with my thoughts: mindfulness and coming back to the present moment.
Reminding myself that I am safe and a capable, confident, strong woman.
Therefore, I might suggest to my younger self that she start practicing Buddhism—to join a local temple and learn more about it.
How it emphasizes personal experience and practice over blind belief. Meditation, mindfulness, and ethical living are central to realizing the teachings in daily life. The focus is on direct understanding and transformation of the mind rather than on ritual or the worship of deities.
To enter this practice with a strong sense of purpose, without seeking attention from boys.
Tell her to envision the woman she wants to be, and start believing she already is her.
