If I could change one law I would change HRCE’s curriculum.

• All academics would be based in Etuaptmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing) – the gift of multiple perspectives – in both Indigenous and Western teachings.
• Mindfulness and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy would be mandatory teachings. Classes begin in primary and are continued and practiced up to high school graduation.

Pay Public School Employees Rewarding Salaries

I would increase salaries for all Nova Scotian public school employees.

I work as an Education Program Assistant in a junior high school.

If I lived alone and had to rent an apartment, I could not afford one.

I hear, on average, the cost of renting an apartment in Halifax, Nova Scotia is $1500.00 a month.

My monthly net pay is only a little more than that.

Thankfully, I am married and relatively financially secure.

Imagine those public school employees who are not financially secure.

Not a lot of motivation to have a positive attitude at work, especially for those supporting the most vulnerable and most challenging within the student population.

Not a lot of incentive to have a strong work ethic and kind heart.

Why would highly qualified people want to make less than the cost of living?

Nova Scotia’s cost of living has drastically increased.

Our salaries do not match this.

Therefore, that is why I would drastically increase the salaries for all Nova Scotian public school employees.
