Hitting A Road-Block

After many years of confusion, it has finally become clear that my husband has undiagnosed Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

We are on a slow journey of understanding how his beautiful neurodiverse brain manifests in ways that brings both joy and struggle to his life and our marriage.

In the evening while tucked cozily into bed, we’ll read a few pages from Is It You, Me, or Adult A.D.D.? Stopping the Roller Coaster When Someone You Love Has Attention Deficit Disorder by Gina Pera.

We then talk about it. Digest it. And when the time feels right, we read from it, again.

Do Not Pass

Michael and I have hit a roadblock.

He doesn’t seem to see his ADHD traits, disagreeing with what I observe.

We’ve stopped reading the book because of this.

I am an alcoholic who successfully stopped drinking 2.5 years ago thanks to accepting this, while surrendering into a 12-Step Program to help me.

Therefore, like an alcoholic who will not accept or see their truth, Michael will not embrace his neurodivergent brain.

So we are stuck in this place of living on the out-of-control roller coaster ride.

I find myself struggling on how to move forward.

I’ve recently embraced Recovery Dharma.

These Buddhist teachings strengthen my 12-Step Spiritual Program.

As well, maybe I can find an online support group. That’s a thought.

Ironically, I support high school students with neurodivergent minds.

It’s very challenging to support when they don’t accept help or use strategies put in place to make their life a little smoother.

At home, with the emotional connection to Michael, it can be even more challenging to practice patience and tolerance.

I guess I continue with:

Today is going to be my Peaceful Day.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
