Kuma – The Scarlett Macaw Parrot
The item that I was incredibly attached to as a youth, is not an item. It is a parrot.
Kuma, the Scarlet Macaw parrot, was the mascot and the best part of the pet store I worked at many, many years ago.
This was back in the day when parents would leave their kids in the pet store while they went shopping.
Add to that this pet store was located in a popular busy mall, especially on Saturdays.
I loved this parrot.
He had so much personality.
Much to the delight of staff, Kuma would scream as loud as he could, “F*&K OFF” freaking out parents while making kids laugh.
Kuma lived out her days with the owner of the pet store, Andrew Wash and his family.
She continued with her outgoing personality. Stories such as screaming out in the middle of the night, waking their new baby who had just fallen asleep.
Later in life, Kuma developed tumours and sadly had to be euthanized.
Andrew made a 6 foot casket for Kuma, who is now buried under a much beloved tree in their back yard.

Sears Roebuck Model 564.50381 “Go Anywhere” Portable Television and Radio, 1980s
In 1980, one of my Christmas gifts was a portable television & radio.
I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
I’m not sure what became of it.
My grandparents probably started using it when, as an 11 year old, my attention span turned back to my brand new Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back action figures.
