Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion
On January 28, 1986, I sat with my Grade 11 class in the library watching the launch of Space Shuttle Challenger.
It was exciting because Christa McAuliffe was the first teacher to fly in space.
Then, suddenly the space ship exploded, killing all aboard.
This was my first time experiencing a global tragedy, for lack of a better way to explain it.
This tragedy, this moment, I never forgot.
CNN’s Coverage Of The Gulf War
August 2nd, 1990 – February 28th, 1991 – Cable News Network, better known as CNN – entered my life, introducing me to war in the Middle East.
I remember The Gulf War or Operation Desert Storm as CNN reporters Wolf Blitzer, Bernard Shaw, and Christiane Amanpour brought this war into North America’s living rooms.
While living in Qatar, I took an opportunity to visit Kuwait City, curious to find any remnants of that war.
Tucked in between modern buildings I found crumbled memories of it.
