The Fear And Joy Of Learning Kiteboarding

Originally Published: October 8th, 2024

Kiteboarding.

I was pumped to learn, with a healthy mix of fear.

I did make it up on my board, but exhaustion would kick in, resulting in mistakes.

I scared myself with losing control of the kite a few too many times, resulting in my face slamming hard into the water.

I decided to take a break from lessons, but eventually gave up because I didn’t feel safe.

In hindsight, I wish I didn’t give up so easily.

My husband and I talk about revisiting the sport.

We have the gear and our front yard is lined with a lake providing plenty of cross-onshore winds.

Next, what we need is the time to do so!
