Embracing 50: Why I’m Ditching Underwire Bras For Good

As my 56th birthday approaches, I’ve decided to repost blogs I published about past birthdays.

I wrote Embracing 50: Why I’m Ditching Underwire Bras For Good on March 15th, 2019 while we were living in Doha, Qatar.

It’s been 6 years since I wrote this blog and I’m proud to say I still do not own an underwire bra.

However, I’ve stopped squishing my boobs into sports bras and upgraded to soft comfort bras I buy at Costco.

They’re still annoying because the under-band folds on itself and I’m constantly fixing it, but I gotta wear one at work.

Wearing a bra sucks, period.

Underwire Bras & Pantyhose Are Ridiculous Woman’s Apparel

Comfortable Sports Bras for Life And I Don’t Care If They Are Ugly

I hate wearing bras.

Period.

Underwire bras are the worst.

They push everything up while digging into my armpits.

Underwire Bra Humor

I’ve had underwire bras “fitted” by “experts” at Victoria Secrets and La Senza.

Eventually, these “fitted” bras start bothering me.

Too skinny bra straps will dig into my shoulder muscles. When I loosen the straps for comfort, they slide down my arms.

Wide bra straps are better, but they need to be anchored down with a wide under-band.

Two words: Bra Bulge.

There will never be a wide enough under-band that hides bra bulge.

For the past three months I’ve replaced underwire bras for sports bras to test if those tortuous things are the cause of a mysterious ache in my left armpit.

Guess what, the mysterious ache in my left armpit has vanished.

How a Bra Feels

As I approach my 50th birthday, I’ve decided I’ve earned the right to happily throw out every single underwire bra I own.

I could donate them, but why give this bra torture to another woman?

And, honestly do women really want to wear another woman’s discarded bra?

Say goodbye to those below pictured evil underwire bras that were once a form of torture for me.

I’m now a Sports Bra Woman For Life!

  1. I hear you. I think I wore an underwire once. It came off as soon as I put it on. I can’t wear regular bras because the straps cut into my shoulders. I like sports bras.

  2. I feel you! I switched to sports bras, but I think I will free them completely soon😉😊

    1. Bahaha!!! I’m jealous! I work in a Junior High School and I don’t think parents would appreciate my girls hanging free! 🤭🤭🤭
