55 Rules For Love – Rule #29 – Don’t Compromise Your Morals And Values And Don’t Expect Them To Either

Originally published: October 14th, 2020

If you or your partner are rather rigid with their morals and values and they differ from the other, this will cause conflict within the relationship.

I’m thinking religion, money issues, alcohol, drugs, gambling, raising children or politics here.

These issues can be deal breakers.

It might also be tough when your spouse has morals and values that are not of the highest integrity.

What if your partner is okay to scam/cheat a system to get money because they believes the system to be corrupt – so why not get a share?

Ethically, how does that sit with you?

Your morals, what you consider to be right and values that guide you to purposeful action; these traits are the compass of your life.

ps…. This may be an Einstein misquote, but the sentiment is valid.

If not, can you respect the choices and actions of each other?

If one of you believes in God, and the other is an atheist – hopefully a mutual respect can be found.

Let there be a curiosity of each other’s beliefs, views or opinions.

This curiosity opens up exploratory conversation that will always result in a deepening understanding of each other.

Hopefully, as a couple you share traits of mutual respect, curiosity and acceptance so you don’t have to compromise your morals and values.

It is a sticky place to be, if fundamentally your values and moral compasses don’t point in the same direction.

S, 🧡
