55 Rules For Love – Rule #6 – Accept And Forgive Easily

Originally published: January 16th, 2020

Any form of physical, emotional, or mental abuse does not apply to this rule.

Please see Rule # 2 about abuse.

It has been my experience when I cannot accept and forgive easily, it is because I have not had my eyes wide open. When my eyes are shut, in denial, non-accepting of who and how my husband truly is, then I’ve started a collection of resentments against him.

Why?

Because resentments grow out of wishing he was another way – the way I want him to be. It is impossible for me to let go and forgive when I’m filled with non-acceptance and resentments.

Acceptance and forgiveness would be so much easier if my husband would just change to be more of this or more of that, be better at this or better at that.

Expectations vs acceptance. It is okay to have expectations of another, but when those expectations evolve into trying to change another to fit your mold, then you’ve become non-accepting.

This is about authentically seeing your husband/wife/life partner as who and how they really are, rather than your perfect version of how you expect them to be.

There is no perfect version of anyone; only an imperfect, perfect version for you.

When we accept who and how our beloved truly is, all parts of them, only then will we be able to accept and forgive easily.

Only then will hurts be unintentional and disappointments make sense.

It is also important to be accepting and forgiving of yourself.

If you are accepting and forgiving of yourself, you are more likely to be the same with your spouse.

Today, when a hurt or disappointment happens between my husband and I, I am mindful to process my feelings and move towards acceptance, forgiveness and letting it go because I love all the man that is before me – my imperfect, perfect for me husband!

S, 💙
