55 Rules For Love – Rule #1 – When It Arrives, Cherish It

Originally published: January 10th, 2020

My first thoughts on this are when we meet someone romantically, we’re usually wearing our best faces.

We’re trying our best, trying each day.

Therefore, if love does start to develop, this can be scary.

Maybe one person is feeling love, when the other is unsure, not ready to step into the growing seeds of love’s vulnerability.

How many of us know what real love is?

How many families modelled a healthy, balanced, respectful love to their children? How many of us were shown how to cherish love when it arrives? How many of us as children watched our own parents protect and care for their love for each other?

Maybe for some, they grew up in such a home.

Maybe for others, they learned that love hurts. Or love means self-sacrifice, to be a martyr.

How was love modeled in your home?

How can we cherish love, if we don’t know and understand what real love is?

What if we don’t believe we’re worthy of love? Or have the energy or time to actually invest in purposely loving another – because love is a verb – love is action.

Therefore, when love does arrive, cherish it…. cherish the vulnerability of the other’s heart.

Cherish this love, each day, being aware of not stepping into the slippery slide of complacency – a numbing place of unhappiness.

Love requires work, an effort – each and every day – that will require you to step outside your comfort zone while working towards deepening your emotional connection with each other.

Cherish this deepening love as you hold hands together, grow old together, laugh together, cry together while seeing the value in each other and wanting to hold onto that.

Love is two people seeing the perfect imperfection in each other.

I dedicate this blog to my parents. My mom remarried and my stepfather is my father. Mom and DV (Daddie Vernie) have modelled love and commitment in their marriage. They cherish and love each other, seeing the value in each other. They are each other’s priority. They are true love. I am grateful they are my parents.

S, ❤️

As parents you could never give us a greater gift, in that you “see” our love for each other.
We are both blessed to call you daughter.
