Easy—there are two movies that genuinely scared me: the 1973 film The Exorcist and the 1975 film Jaws.
To this day, I fear what might be beneath the surface whenever I swim in a lake or in the ocean.
When I was little, the devil was part of the religion we practiced and a frequent character in the many ghost stories told on late summer nights. Over time, the devil became something I was genuinely afraid of.
During those years, I caught a glimpse of the movie The Exorcist, which sent my fear of the devil over the edge and left me convinced he could come and get me.
I still believe in the devil, but now in a different way.
Here’s how:
I want to believe that when we die, our consciousness transforms into another realm of pure light and love.
But as humans, we hold dual, contrasting traits such as love and hate, charity and greed, so I feel there must also be a realm that opposes light and love—one of darkness and fear.
When I think about spirits and guardian angels, I also think about malevolent spirits and demonic energies. A highly regarded medium once warned me to clearly state out loud that ill-intentioned spirits are not welcome in my home and to smudge its dark corners to cleanse any bad energies that might already be there.
At that time, I was studying and practicing Healing Touch, Level III. My energetic fields were operating at a higher frequency, which allowed me to experience certain auditory and visual psychic phenomena while treating people. Then other “things” started to happen that stared to scare me. So much so that I contacted a well-known medium in our area, who explained that spirits sense my higher energy frequencies and are drawn to me—both benevolent and malevolent—and that I must energetically protect myself.
Yup.
True story.
