Deciding what kind of travel you want is important.
Do you want to lay on a beach and snorkel coral reefs, hang out by the pool in a resort, immerse yourself in rural culture, visit a world famous metropolis, or go on an outdoor adventure?
It’s been my experience that planning the details of the type of vacation you want helps with budget travel.
Such as booking affordable flights and accommodations.
Check entry visa requirements. I once made a major mistake on this when planning a weekend trip to Azerbaijan. It’s been over a decade since this happened, so the details are fuzzy. I had everything booked and planned, then discovered the visa mistake and wasn’t able to get a refund on my flight or accommodation. That was a mistake I learned from!
If your accommodation has a kitchen, buying groceries and packing lunches helps.
Setting a daily spending limit helps too.
Again, it all depends on the type of travel you’re experiencing.
If you’re planning a safari or mountain trek, there are a lot of details to know about where your money is going and why.
If you’re staying at a resort and want to do nothing all day but be served and swim at the pool, an all inclusive package can be useful – especially if you plan to drink lots of alcohol.
So, my tip for a budget adventure is to plan every detail around your style of travel.
