Happiness Is A Choice

Daily writing prompt
What’s a common misconception people have about happiness?

A common misconception people have about happiness is that it is not attainable.

Happiness begins from within.

To see the world with gratitude, with what actually is.

To rise above and realize this life is it.

I can either be steeped in misery or I can choose to be happy.

I realize how those suffering with mental health issues, as I do, may need pharmaceutical assistance to help with brain chemistry.

That without medication the world may seem bleak, dark and filled with danger.

Yet, there are solutions to this such as therapy and 12-Step programs to create a spiritual life.

I say all this from my own personal experience.

I am on medication for anxiety. I am now in the process of reducing my dosing from 150mg a day to 37.5mg a day.

I have mental health diagnoses – Borderline Personality Disorder and Histrionic Personality Disorder. I’ve attended Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for this.

As well, I’ve attended Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma response.

I attend a 12-Step program for my alcoholism.

This is it – one kick at the can at this thing called life.

Knowing this, I meet life in each moment, and happiness is a choice.
