How do I use social media?
I recently deleted my Facebook page for these reasons:
- No more mindless scrolling of other people’s feed.
- To free my mind from the psychological hook of that little red notification circle.
- To free my mind from the psychological hook of who “likes” my posts and who does not.
- To stop giving Meta so much of my personal information.
- To rid myself of the social complexities of “friend requests”
- my not wanting to accept certain “friend” requests because I do not know the person
- or my wondering why someone I know did not “accept” my friendship requests
- Yes, it is a way to stay in touch with people, but how often do people stay in touch with me?
There are, however, social media platforms which are very useful for me. They enhance my life, rather than wasting it with looking at my phone while mindlessly scrolling other people’s feed on Facebook.
They are:
- WordPress – My wee little corner, my voice within the World Wide Web.
- YouTube – I listen to guided meditations, sleep stories, follow yoga sessions, learn beginner skills such as crocheting or how to play the ukulele, and research how to fix stuff myself rather than pay someone to do it for me.
- WhatsApp – to message and talk with my Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) sponsor who in lives South Carolina, United States.
- Zoom – For online AA meetings – anytime – anywhere in the world.
