Many years ago, I was waiting at bus stop to go home after a doctor’s appointment.
It was a grey, dreary day.
An older woman was there, waiting for the same bus.
I can’t remember if I was inwardly annoyed because she started up conversation with me, or I welcomed it. However I felt, I would have been polite.
A few weeks later I was at a gathering of my then boyfriend’s family home.
This same woman was there. She recognized me. She commented on how kind I was.
This stands out because my kindness was remembered.
If I had been dismissive or unkind, I would have been remembered for that, creating an awkward interaction at that gathering.
As Maya Angelou once said:
People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.
