We adopted two young dogs from rescue shelters in Texas, USA.
Vinnie and Pebbles spent the beginnings of their lives in kennels. Alive, yes. Fed and in a warm shelter. Yes. But lacking consistent human cuddles and contact.
Vinnie was a little over a year old when he arrived with us. His self-soothing was wrapping up in a tight ball, hugging himself to sleep. Our bed and snuggling with us is his favourite place to be.
Pebbles arrived with us when she was about six months old. Licking was and is her self-soothing activity. Every morning, when we start to wake up, she pounces on us and licks our faces. She’s settled some, but we still laugh and enjoy her antics.
Vinnie and Pebbles love to be with us; they are an extensions of our hearts.
Our favourite time of day is bedtime, when Michael, Vinnie, Pebbles and I snuggle in together to fall asleep.
We are one big happy pack of love.

The Bull Terrier – Clowns of Destruction!
I once had to dog sit a Bull Terrier pup for a weekend.
This was as akin to babysitting a toddler on speed.
Adorable.
Yes.
Strong.
Yes.
Single-mindedness.
Yes.
Easily bored.
Yes.
Take your eyes off of for a minute – something is destroyed.
Yes.
Was I exhausted?
Yes.
And very happy to return “AH-AH NO!” to her mom!
