I haven’t kayaked as much as I once did. My hips and knees don’t seem to enjoy being in the cockpit as they once did.

However, if I plan accordingly I can take a day trip with a friend – and kayak this beautiful Nova Scotian treasure – 100 Wild Islands.

Halifax Citadel National Historic Site & Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site

Halifax Citadel National Historic Site – I know it as Citadel Hill.

I’ve ran its perimeter. I’ve sat on its hill to watch fireworks or a concert.

I’ve never been inside, I think?

I have a vague memory of being there – I am young – pre-teens – and am in a dark area looking at a stone jail cell with metal bars. Maybe a school trip or family adventure ? I cannot remember.

I have the same wonderings of the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site.

I am young, pre-teens – and have a blurred memory of being there with my grandparents and looking up at a women wearing period costume.

  1. Never been to Fortress Louisbourg, but have been by the Citadel more often than I can count. First time there, it was so freaking hot out, that walking uphill from the harbour to the Citadel gates just about killed me. Our daughter lives about ten minutes walking north of the Citadel. When I pet sat for her for a week in the summer, the dog and I would always include a walk around the streets bordering Citadel.

    1. I’m glad the hill didn’t kill you! It almost killed me one time, too when I was running with a friend and I straggled behind her like a limp noodle while making my way to the top!

      1. Haha I hear ya. Heading from the harbour up Sackville or Prince Streets and then the climb up the stairs/road at the Citadel on what was likely the hottest day of the summer was “interesting.”

Hi Sweetie, yes we were at the Fortress of Louisbourg with nanny & grandad and we also went through Halifax Citadel Hill on a tour. Easy to forget as you would have been fairly young.

    1. Thanks mama! 🙏🏻🌻💛
