5 Principles of Reiki
Just for today, I will not worry
Just for today, I will not be angry
Just for today, I will do my work honestly
Just for today, I will be kind to all living things
Just for today, I will be grateful for my many blessings
Since my move back to Nova Scotia from Qatar, it seems few people are interested in the fact I lived overseas.
I’m not alone in this experience. Other expats I’ve spoken with have had the same experience.
It feels as if I have to stuff my overseas life in a bag, and take it out only when it is welcomed to do so.
This feels so unnatural for me, because I am such an enthusiastic person
I’ve also grown personally and professionally while living overseas.
I want to share this with everyone!

Actions Not Words
Therefore, it seems actions will express my overseas experiences, not words.
Professionally, one challenge I am experiencing in my return to work as support staff in the public education system, is having to turn off my volume of enthusiasm as part of a neurodivergent student’s behaviour plan.
As I support this student, I have to be calm, very calm – all day.
My enthusiasm has to be shifted to gentle encouragement.
I have to communicate this gentle encouragement with less words to allow time for processing.
This expectation is completely opposite of my natural state of being, setting me up for what feels like an easy failure.
I will feel more incapable at work, than stepping back into successful skill sets I developed and thrived on while working overseas at an international private school.
This is my challenge now. To set aside my natural self to adapt to what is needed.
All I can do is give it my honest best.
