55 Rules For Love – Rule #50 – Don’t Sleep On A Fight

Not Always Easy

Sometimes, when I’m deeply hurt or really angry, it takes me time to lower the shield that defends my heart. I need time and space to process my emotions, to then know how to proceed with the issue that has ignited a fight between my husband and I.

True, if we sleep on a fight – something might happen to my beloved during the night, and when I wake up I will forever be left with the regret that I went to bed angry at him.

It’s possible, but is it probable?

How can a night of needing space to process hurt and anger overshadow a marriage of two people completely committed to each other?

The Ideal

These 55 Runs For Love, are an ideal.

A way.

A pathway to walk towards.

They’re not easy, but I’d rather be walking this path, than the alternative.

To have an awareness of ways to deepen my connection with my husband and make my marriage a relationship where we can feel safe enough to truly blossom and thrive as an individual and as a couple.

To give each other space to process life, as it happens.

Middle Ground

What I’ve thought of as I’ve contemplated this rule, is finding a softer way to sleep on a fight.

This would include communicating that I need some time and space to process what I’m hurt/angry at to then find a helpful solution that is proactive and a win-win for everyone. Something like that.

Or, we could just stay up all night, and fight! That can be fun too, especially the make-up part!

Anger can be a fiery fuel for change and can be very fun in the bedroom.

Joking aside, while not always easy, this rule has a lot of merit in finding a way back to a peaceful heart.

And then there are times when we all have to “Agree to Disagree”
We are all different and are BOTH entitled to our opinions!
It would be a dull life if we were all the same…Heart plus Head makes a great combo…but never loose your independent personality …ever!
