My first thoughts on this are….IF WE ALLOW IT.
If you’re in a relationship with someone who WILL NOT let their guard down. Will NOT be vulnerable. Will NOT emotionally connect.
Or vice verse…
You…WILL NOT let your guard down. You will NOT be vulnerable. You will NOT emotionally connect.
Then this rule will never work. How can someone mirror you if you won’t let them see your true self?
It is number three on the list – an important one.
Scary stuff…..to let your guard down.
But then again, you can’t escape everyday life. When tough stuff happens and your significant other sees anger and aggression in you, your inability to emotionally regulate – you can’t avoid that. Or how about the other end of the continuum when tough stuff happens and your signifiant other sees your indifference and sticking your head in the sand – avoiding tough issues at all cost.
What does the mirror reveal, even when we try to hide behind aggression, masks and walls?
This is the journey, ‘eh….of allowing another to tell us what they see in us – besides all the best faces we initially put forward.
Then there are the tender moments….
Mirrors also reveal beauty….
Mirrors reveal the wondrous side of each other….our gentle hearts, our laughter, our joy, our curiosity, our intelligence…..our hearts in moments of vulnerably and love.
The question is…are you willing to be vulnerable enough to let another mirror you? Are you willing to let another hold the mirror up to reveal your dark side as well as your beauty?
Just make sure the person holding up the mirror is safe, and respects you enough to walk with you when the dark side is revealed.
But I think that is the entire point of this rule – if you’ve made it passed Rule #1 and Rule #2 – then authentic love is who is holding the mirror…..
Authentic love holds the mirror. Authentic love helps us see us for who we really are. Right or wrong. Good or Bad. It is what it is. We are who we are. At this moment in time.
S, ❤️
